No one has volunteered to be the playgroup leader as of yet, and I am definitely out for the count. This is the last post I'll do, so if you would LOVE to be playgroup leader please e-mail me. :)

It seems as though everyone is still interested in doing a playgroup. We just need to spread the word to everyone.

On another note. On Monday I am going to begin working full-time so I won't be able to plan or be at playgroup. If you want to take on being the playgroup leader e-mail me at heatherjim@ymail.com and we'll make the switch! Sorry I have to bail, but life is calling :)

Tuesday, February 16th - Swimming at The South Jordan Fitness and Aquatics Center

Where: The South Jordan Fitness and Aquatic Center
When: Tuesday, February 16th
Time: Meet at there at 10-10:15am
Cost: $3 for Adults, $1 per child

On Tuesday, February 16th we'll be going to The South Jordan Fitness and Aquatic Center for some swimming. We'll meet in the pool at 10-10:15am. The Aquatic center hosts parent and child swim from 9am-1pm so we'll be able to have fun for a while. The pool has water features (a slide and things that spray) but they will not be turned on while we are there. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 per child. They also require that the parents swim with the child.

* Swim diapers AND plastic pants are required for children who are not fully potty-trained.

* Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices and/or water wings are allowed in the pool.

* For toys, they recommend only bringing soft, inflatable balls to play with.

* They have "family" dressing rooms where children over 4 years old can be taken if they are not the same gender as the parent.

Come have some water fun in the winter!

Wednesday, February 10th - Bouncin Off The Walls

Where: Bouncin' Off The Walls in Sandy

When: Wednesday, February 10th

Time: 10am (open until 1pm)

Cost: $5 per child; parents are free

***Socks are required. Long sleeves are recommended***

Every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Bouncin’ Off The Walls hosts an open bounce for mothers with kids ages 5 and younger. No reservations are required and the admission is only $5.00 per child and parents play free. We'll meet inside Bouncin' Off The Walls at 10am. Addi and I will probably start playing right away, so look for the crazy brunettes jumping and giggling. Come play with us! We would love to have more playgroup friends!

How to get there:

- Take 10400S (South Jordan Parkway) East towards I-15

- Turn left on Jordan Gateway/500 W (if you go under I-15 you've gone too far)

- Turn right on 9400S

Sorry about playgroup last week! I never showed up to the church because I totally got my days mixed up and thought it was Wednesday (when it was actually Thursday) until about noon. Of course that's NEVER happened to you, so I hope you'll forgive me :)

On another note. Anisa has suggested that we do an e-mail list for playgroup and I think it's a great idea! Attendance at playgroups has been so hit-and-miss that hopefully an e-mail list will help. E-mail me at: heatherjim@ymail.com if you want to be on the list. Also, let me know what days and times are best for you for playgroup (either in an e-mail or as a comment), because I'm more than willing to switch things up.

Thursday, December 31st - The Living Planet Aquarium

Where: The Living Planet Aquarium

When: Thursday, December 31st

Time: Meet at the church at 11:30am

Cost: $8 for Adults, $6 for children, Free for 2 and under. (And FYI $7 for Seniors, Students and Military).

On Thursday, The Living Planet Aquarium (www.thelivingplanet.com) is having a "Noon Year's Eve" party. Shawn Stevens (apparently from B98.7) will be there with games, karaoke, crafts, activities and prizes! The kids can touch live animals at Critter Corner and get 98 cent hot dogs at Calypso's Cafe (all part of The Living Planet Aquarium).

The party starts at noon and goes until 3pm.

We'll meet at the church at 11:30am and head over the aquarium together - We'll wait 5-10 minutes for everyone to show up.

The address for the aquarium is 725 East 10600 South in Sandy. Just take South Jordan Parkway/10400S all the way to 725 East.

Thursday, December 3rd - Festival of Trees

This week we'll meet on Thursday at the church at 10am to drive to the Festival of Trees together. That way we don't have to search each other out when we get there. Please invite your friends to bring their kids!

The Festival of Trees has more than 800 decorated trees, an aisle of wreaths, a sweet shoppe, small fry (small items priced for a child's budget), gingerbread houses, playhouse plaza, hot scones and sweet rolls, Santa land (pictures with Santa), Kids Korner (face painting, bubble machine, etc), and entertainment.

The cost is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 2-11.

Discounted tickets can be bought at Zions Banks ahead of time (50 cents off per ticket).

Directions from Daybreak:

- Take South Jordan Parkway (10400 S) east, and go over I-15.

- Go North on State Street

- Continue until you see the South Towne Expo Center on your right

- Address: 9575 S State Street

December's Playgroups

I've been super neglectful of playgroups the last few weeks, but it's time to pick it up again. :)

The playgroup will continue even though "Enrichment Groups" are no longer part of Relief Society. So let your friends know about the blog and about the playgroups!

A few ideas I have for December are:

- Festival of Trees

- Pictures with Santa (at a mall)

- White elephant party and sugar cookies

- Sledding

- Snowmen

Let me know if you have any other ideas because I'm up for anything!!

On Thursday, December 3rd at 10am we'll be going to Festival of Trees. It's $4 per adult and $3 per child, but if you buy the tickets at Zion's Bank then you'll get 50 cents off per ticket! I'll post a more detailed blog in a few days!

Thursday, October 29th - Costume Party and Picnic

Dress your cute ones up in their costumes to come play and picnic at 10am on Thursday!

We'll picnic at Northshore park (corner of Oyster Shell and Pheobe Lane; the most northwest on Vermillion you can go). There are tennis courts, a basketball court, a grassy area, and a playground.

If it's too cold (which it's looking like it might be) we'll just move it across the street to my house at 4648 W Vermillion Drive. We have laminate floors to picnic on and plenty of playing space, so it should work out fine if we need to move indoors.

Comment to sign up to bring something to share. (sandwiches, goldfish, etc.)

This playgroup was first scheduled for Tuesday at Northshore park. But the weather is looking like it's going to be nicer on Thursday, so let's play on Thursday instead. Also, we haven't visited Eastlake park for a while and I'm sure it misses us, so lets go there!

Tuesday, October 13th - Pumpkin Patch

We're heading out to the pumpkin patch this week!

This particular patch has a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, an already cut pumpkin patch, a tractor collection, and a free corn maze for children. Their pumpkins range in cost from 2 for $1 to $10.

We will meet at The Patch around 10am on Tuesday and have fun exploring everything. (I'm bringing my camera, so if you want any pictures of your little one with the pumpkins or tractors I'll be more than happy to help you out!)

We're going to the park, so bundle up! (The high tomorrow is 55 degrees).

The park is at the intersection of Mille Lacs Drive and Indigo Sky Way. There are slides, sand, things to spin on, etc. I went there a few days ago (before it was freezing) with my 15 month old, and she loved it! There's something for everyone.

October's Playgroups

Since school has started and the weather is changing let's go ahead and just do playgroups once a week. Here are the tentative playgroups for October. Let me know if you have any questions or any great ideas! :)

Playgroups will be on Tuesdays at 10am, unless there is bad weather (for outdoor playgroups), in which case the playgroup will be moved to Thursday at 10am of the same week.

10/6 - 10am Orchard Park (4331 W Belleville Drive, Daybreak)

10/13 - 10am Pumpkin Patch (11946 S 3600 W, Riverton)

10/20 - 10am Northshore Park (Corner of Oyster Shell and Pheobe Lane in Northshore; the most Northwest you can go in Daybreak)

10/27 - 10am Halloween Picnic and Costume Party (Location TBA)

Liberty Park - Thursday September 24th

This week let's head to Liberty Park! I know we already did a playgroup there this summer, but I'm a little un-creative (if that's even a word) and I didn't get to go last time, so let's grace Liberty Park with our presence once again. We can feed the ducks and play on the playground since I'm pretty sure the water features are off for the season.

If you would like to follow me up there, we can meet at the church at 10:40am and drive to Liberty Park.

If you would like to meet at Liberty Park, we'll be there around 11am and we can meet at the playground in the northwest corner of the park.

Pack a lunch, some bread/whatever for the ducks, and most importantly... your kids! :)

The address for Liberty Park is 1100 S 600 E, in SLC. Your best bet is taking the 1300/900 S Exit and take 900 S all of the way to the north entrance of the park. Hope to see you there!

Hey y'all!

Sorry for the late notice, I was thinking that for this Thursday's playgroup we could go to the park to enjoy one of the last warm days of summer. (Also, I didn't plan anything far enough in advance for a field trip... completely my fault).

Playgroup Updates!

Hey y'all! This is Heather. I'm finally getting my act together and getting things underway.

I'm working on planning playgroups for the next few months. Does anyone have any great ideas for when it gets cold outside??

Kat, I LOVE the idea of a Tour de Daybreak. I'll start figuring that out this week and then let everyone know the specifics ASAP.

Also, I read in one of the older comments that someone was wondering what to do if they don't have a way to get to the field trip playgroups. We'll figure something out. If anyone has extra space and would be willing to carpool just let me know. I have extra space in my car for two kids and an adult.

As for now we'll stick with the current schedule:

Park Day: Tuesdays 10:00 am Meet at the "beach" park by the lake

Field Trip Day: Thursdays at 11:00 am--- we'll skip that this week and start up again next week.

Pool Day: The pools are now closed on weekdays. But if you want to go to the pool with your family the hours for the Eastlake pool are:

Saturday and Sunday

11:00am - 4:00pm Open Plunge

4:00pm - 5:00pm Lap Swimming

Thanksgiving Point

Tuesday, August 25th we will be going to Thanksgiving Point. For the month of August every Tuesday is $2. We thought the end of the month would be best because MAYBE it might be a little less crowded. We are taking the chance!
We will meet at the entrance to the Farm Country at 10:00. (I know that is a little early but that is when it opens and we might get less crowds if we are the first there)

This week for playgroup we are going to the Olympic Fountain at the gateway mall. Meet there at 11:00. We can have the kids play for awhile then head to the food court for lunch. Have them dressed in swim suits and sunscreen.

Liberty Park

This is my favorite playgroup of the year!!! It's hot, so let's get wet! Meet at the rivers fountain at 11:00. Bring a sack lunch, swim suits for the kids and sunscreen.

Entrance to the park is on 9th south between 6th and 7th east. Head around the park and park by the tennis courts. Then head over to the rivers. If you need directions, give me a call at 455-8960 Cost: Free

Thursday, July 16th- Herriman Splash Park

This Thursday we are going to the Conservation Garden Park. Meet at the entrance at 11:00 am. The park is located at 8215 S. 1300 W.

I have never been here, but I am always up for trying new places. I believe that it is free, but I don't know if they will allow us to eat in the park. Bring a sack lunch and if they don't let us eat there we can find another park nearby to have lunch.

Thursday June 18th- Wheeler Farm

This Thursday for Playgroup we are heading to Wheeler Farm at 11:00. Bring a sack lunch and we'll have a picnic first. Look for each other on the grass area. After lunch we can look around at the animals or go on the tractor ride or feed the ducks. Visit Wheeler Farm website for directions to the park. Wheeler Farm is FREE... the tractor ride is $1.50 but that is optional.

Thursday, June 11th- This is the Place

This week for playgroup we are going to This is the Place Monument. It's a FREE day!!! Meet there at 11:00 at the entrance where you would pay. Bring a sack lunch, sunscreen, etc. I haven't been there in a very long time, but it looks like lots of fun. Visit their website for directions, a map of the monument, etc.

Copper Mine

We had a lot of fun up at the copper mine. The kids really enjoyed the museum and the movie. They got a little nervous when we heard there might be a blast... they thought we were going to get hurt!
After the mine we headed into the town of Copperton for a picnic. It was such a fun park... the kids forgot that they were hungry.

Thursday, June 4th- Kennecott

I thought for playgroup this week it would be fun to visit the Kennecott Mine. I don't know how many of you have been there.... but it's pretty cool. You drive up the mountain and at the top you can see down into the pit. There is a giant tire you can see and sometimes you can see the huge trucks. There is a visitors center with a short video and displays inside as well. After, we could go to this fun park in Copperton for a picnic. It's really old, so there are a lot of huge shade trees. This map will show you how to get there. I do believe that the new road at 114th south will take you out there as well, but I haven't tried it.

The cost is $5 per vehicle, so you may want to plan a carpool. I can fit 2 kids and one adult with me, so I'd love to have anyone come. Please check the box at the bottom and let me know if you'll be there. Or email me or call me with questions.

We will keep the votes open for awhile, but it looks like people prefer to have a pool day, park day and fieldtrip day.

International Peace Gardens- Friday May 22nd

This week for playgroup we are meeting at the International Peace Gardens at 11:00 am on Friday. The gardens are located at 1000 S 900 W (at Fremont Avenue). The gardens are really fun and the park is located by the jordan river, so it's fun to walk by the river. There is also a playground nearby and lots of picnic areas.
